Peter Terium

Peter Terium is CEO of innogy SE, having held this post since April 1, 2016. From July 1, 2012, to October 14, 2016, he was CEO of RWE AG. With Terium’s background in finance and controlling and his broad international experience in the industry, he has positioned innogy efficiently and successfully in the transformation of the German energy industry.

Peter Terium is from the Netherlands. He was born in Nederweert in the province of Limburg on 26 September 1963. He studied accountancy at the Nederlands Instituut voor Registeraccountants in Amsterdam.

After working for the Dutch Ministry of Finance for a short period, Terium moved to the private sector in 1985. He worked as an audit supervisor at KPMG in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, and from 1990 to 2002 he held various international managerial positions in finance and controlling at Schmalbach-Lubeca AG, a packaging manufacturer based in Ratingen, Germany.

In 2003, Terium joined RWE as head of the Group’s controlling department, before moving to executive positions at various subsidiaries, including RWE Supply & Trading GmbH, which is responsible for the Group’s commodity and CO2-emission certificates trading and procurement and the commercial optimisation of the power plant fleet. He was responsible for the integration of the Dutch utility Essent in 2009, turning RWE into the largest land-based wind farm operator in Germany. In the summer of 2012, he announced that as a consequence of the reaction to Fukushima, and especially the reaction in Germany, RWE would not build any new nuclear power stations. As CEO of RWE he succeeded Dr. Juergen Grossmann, who holds the position of treasurer at United Europe.

Terium is a self-professed vegetarian. He meditates, does yoga and admits that he leaves official events by around 11.00 pm at the latest. As he once told the German weekly Die Zeit, “That’s not based on ideology or on religious conviction. It’s just because it’s good for me.”

„As a founding member of Europe, France needs to fully play its part“

Jean-François Cirelli
