It has only been a month since Donald Trump was sworn in as President of the United States of America, but it sometimes seems like years. In his first weeks in office, Trump has signed a multitude of highly controversial decrees. He has also had to replace his National Security Advisor.
“The global public has never seen so much political incoherence in a newly elected US government,” writes Professor James Bindenagel, a former US-Ambassador to Germany and member of United Europe. In an essay written for United Europe, he calls on Germany and Europe to take the initiative on transatlantic relations. They should also do more for their own security, defend themselves against the rise of right-wing populist parties and defend stable international institutions and free and fair trade.
