Application Call: Advocacy Seminar Africa and Europe, a strategic partnership at last?

on June 17 and 18, 2022 You are invited to join 25 outstanding individuals, between 20 and 40 years old, from all over Europe to our Advocacy Seminar in Berlin “Africa and Europe, a strategic partnership at last?” The two-day seminar promises engaging presentations from private and public sector experts, moderated by Professors Andreas Freytag and Helmut Asche.

The first day of the seminar will take place at the ESMT on June 17, from 09h00 to 18h00 CET. Hildegart Bentele, Member of the European Parliament, will give a keynote on the current climate and illuminate the potential of the Africa-EU Partnership on the heels of the European Union – African Union Summit that took place in February in Brussels. The day will continue with presentations on Africa’s economic and political frameworks, including private sector presentations on energy, agriculture, automobile and raw materials with speakers from the Federation of German Industries (BDI); German Development Agency GIZ; The German Association of the Automobile Industry (VDA); and the Afrika-Verein der deutschen Wirtschaft (AV), the foreign trade association of German businesses with an interest in the African continent. The panel discussion “After the EU-Africa Summit: Contours of a new EU-Africa cooperation?” will round up the first day.

The second day of the seminar takes place at the Oderberger Hotel on June 18, from 09h00 to 14h00 CET. The Focus will be on EU development aid strategies, German foreign trade and investment promotion, geopolitics, and security. Siemens Energy will lead a session on foreign trade promotion and development. The next session will examine Chinese and Russian engagement on the African continent. The seminar ends with a discussion lab on European answers to African challenges and opportunities.
