In every EU member state, associations are the most widespread form of civil society joining forces. While companies and cooperatives can be set up under European law (SE/SCE) since 2004/2006, associations can, up-to-date, only be founded under national law (French associations, Dutch associations, Polish associations asf.).
One consequence for this is that members who come from a country other than the country in which their association is based may not be able to claim membership fees and donations for tax purposes.
This is why the Düsseldorf-based association “We are Europe!” launched the campaign “Yes, we are a European association – YEA!”, which is supported by United Europe.
