“With the victory of the conservative Nea Dimokratia in the parliamentary elections Greece is poised for a change of government”, writes the European euro|topics press review. “Today, Monday, party chief Kyriakos Mitsotakis is to be sworn in as premier. He has promised tax cuts and investment. While commentators can understand why Syriza was defeated they are nonetheless sceptical about the new government’s chances of success.”

In today’s press review euro|topics is quoting ABC from Spain, Formiche.net from Italy, TVXS from Greece, Die Presse from Austria, and Dagens Nyheter from Sweden. The comments range from “The end of a misguided adventure” and “Syriza has survived” to “Still not a modern country”. You can find all comments on the website of euro|topics here.

With the daily press review euro|topics has been making an important contribution towards establishing a European public sphere since 2005. Financed by the Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung, it aims to convey a realistic overview of national debates and discourse. To this end it quotes from articles in European media that help shape public opinion in the countries in question. The press review appears in German, English, French, Russian and Turkish. It promotes trans-European debate and creates new networks for media, cultural and political exchange. A media database supplies background information on around 500 print and online media.

„What we lack are growth stars and starlets. We should therefore ask ourselves what needs to be done to get more European companies back into this league.“
