Despite the Ukraine crisis, the President of the Russian energy company Rosneft, Igor Sechin, called for closer economic ties between Russia and Germany. At an event organised by United Europe and the German Energy Agency dena on June 20 in Berlin, Sechin also warned about the consequences that economic sanctions against Russia would have. Horst Teltschik, a former deputy head of the German chancellery, called on Russia to help restore peace in Ukraine and stop the smuggling of weapons across the border between Russia and the Ukraine.
