“When the Brexit referendum happened in 2016, I felt for the first-time what Europe really means to me and I was deeply afraid that it will be taken away. Being born in 1990, Europe was taken-for-granted. Freedom of movement was also not special. Buying an interrail ticket and traveling through Europe at 17 was exceptional, of course, but normal in the sense that I could repeat it anytime. Yet, in 2016 the fragility of Europe became shockingly obvious. The work United Europe does in bringing young people together and bringing European thought to life is now more important than ever. Moving to a post-Brexit UK this became even more obvious to me.”
