German Foundation Day: Our Democracy

Panel discussion: “From a Europe of institutions to a Europe of citizens: how can European civil society achieve more integration and participation?”

In May 2019 a new European Parliament will be elected, which will then appoint a new European Commission in October. Against this background, we will discuss the status quo of European civil society at the German Foundation Day. Following an analysis of the election results, we will ask what consequences the election results will have for civil society involvement in Europe and the preservation of an open and social society. The panel and participants will have the opportunity to exchange views on how to overcome the alienation between EU institutions and civil society. Finally, we want to critically question which values European civil society represents today, which elites are valuable for democracy and which are dangerous, what the foundations do for a better understanding of Europe and a peaceful, communal, competitive Europe. The event takes place in German language.
