The overwhelming feedback from our first two mentoring rounds encouraged United Europe and its partner Schwarz & Pfeiffer Executive Advisory Partners to continue the programme with new mentees and mentors. The mentorship between young leaders and experienced executives promises an exchange between generations and offers the opportunity for individuals to tap into the knowledge of those with more experience than themselves and learn faster than they would on their own. It’s also an opportunity to grow their network across the European continent and connect with leaders rather than only with their peers.
“The European Union is essential for peace and stability on the continent. This program reflects that understanding by cultivating young leaders through the type of engagement and consensus-building needed for the future,” says Jürgen Großmann, Board Member at United Europe
United Europe’s Mentoring Program is a comprehensive exchange program that connects Young Leaders with Senior Executives across the European continent. Young talents and highly qualified young leaders from all over Europe are given the opportunity to exchange ideas with experienced mentors over six months on topics that are important for Europe and thus also for companies and society. A mentor may share with a mentee information about his or her own career path, as well as provide guidance, motivation, emotional support and role modeling. A mentor may help with exploring careers, setting goals, developing contacts, and identifying resources.
“We need a new generation of Europeans who are invested in the European project and eager to tackle challenges on a European level from security to climate change, ” says Marcus Lippold, Board Member at United Europe.
In 2023 United Europe will focus on organising a large 2/3-day conference that will turn into an annual event for United Europe’s Advocates. The United Europe Advocacy Conference will offer participants the opportunity to engage more intensively and through interdisciplinary exchange on current European issues to build both professional and personal bridges across the continent. United Europe will invite leading figures to join the group as guest speakers.
“European millennials know openness and exchange, not isolation behind walls and fences. We must invest in a pan-European relationship to build on strong ties previous generations cultivated”, says Anthony Ruys, Board Member at United Europe
Megatrends, multilateral and geopolitics are to be discussed at the conference. It will also be a platform for the mentees to present a project they have been working on to redefine Europe’s narrative. The previous cohort has focused on digital health, mobility, the taxonomy and energy price crisis, Brexit and digital transformation.
“The strong network of United Europe that sustains this program each year are tangible examples of Europe’s future strength”, says Walter Schlebusch, Board Member at United Europe
How to become a United Europe Advocate?
Each year, United Europe corporate and individual members have the opportunity to nominate candidates or apply to the program. Applications are reviewed by a selection committee and matched. Finally, a new cohort of Mentors and Mentees will be working together on redefining Europe’s narrative.
