In an interesting perspective on the Euro crisis, Wolfgang Gerke, a well-known German expert on banking and financial markets, has defended the common currency as an excellent investment for Germany. “There have been many mistakes made, but these are mistakes we will have to live with,” said Gerke. “In spite of everything, I remain greatly enthusiastic about the Euro.”
Gerke sharply criticized the EU’s policy vis-à-vis Greece and the other crisis countries. “We didn’t save Greece, we saved the European banks – and we destroyed Greece’s small and medium-sized companies,“ he explained. Gerke spoke at Giesecke & Devrient’s paper factory in Louisenthal on the Tegernsee. Walter Schlebusch, CEO of G&D and board member of United Europe, welcomed an audience made up of entrepreneurs, political personalities and members of United Europe.
