Finding the right balance between state authority and economic autonomy in a free society is an art. There is a growing trend worldwide towards this balance becoming increasingly blurred. The resulting challenge for us Europeans is to preserve European values such as freedom, the rule of law and equal opportunities and, if necessary, to reinvent them.
Through my studies at the university and my professional experience in representing the interests of the Baden-Württemberg economy, I was able to develop a keen sense of which issues could be of particular importance for the future of the population and the state. The order of the day is to lead the European model to sustainable success through smart policies that are in line with the needs of the economy and society. At the political level, this means finding a balance between necessary regulation and the sensible distribution of state powers.
I am convinced that Europe and the European Union can offer a strong alternative to isolationist developments at the global level if they recognise and utilise the strengths of unity, justice and freedom for the sake of their citizens.
