Overview

Prof. Jörg Rocholl, PhD, is the president of ESMT Berlin. He is also the vice-chair of the advisory board to the German Federal Ministry of Finance.

Career History

Jörg graduated from the Witten/Herdecke University, where he earned a degree in economics (with honors). After completing his PhD at Columbia University in New York, he was named an assistant professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Prof. Rocholl has researched and taught at ESMT since 2007 and was appointed president of ESMT in 2011.
Jörg’s research interests are in the areas of corporate finance, corporate governance, financial intermediation, central banks, and financial regulation. His research has been accepted for publication in leading academic journals such as the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, and the Review of Financial Studies.

Jörg is research fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), research member of the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI), research professor at the ifo Institute, chair of the scientific advisory board of the Research Database and Service Center (FDSZ) of Deutsche Bundesbank, vice-chair of the economic advisory board of Deutsche Welle, member of the scientific advisory board of DIW Berlin and advisory board member of The Public Governance Institute in Germany. In 2019 and 2020, he was the vice-chair of the Verein für Socialpolitik (German Economic Association). He was both Lamfalussy and Duisenberg Fellow of the European Central Bank (ECB).
