Friedhelm Päfgen has been Chairman of the Board of SURTECO SE, a Bavarian paper-processing company, for the past thirteen years.
He was born on 23rd November 1951 in Dormagen and studied business administration at the FH Aachen thanks to a scholarship grant of the Peter Klöckner Foundation. His professional career began at Klöckner-Humboldt Deutz AG in Cologne where Päfgen started out in the industrial motors department. He eventually joined the company’s executive board as the member responsible for global sales. In 1991 he was appointed to the executive board of Glunz AG.
In 1993 he became the sole director of Bausch AG, a supplier for the furniture industry with annual sales of about 40 million Euros. Today, SURTECOSE, Bausch’s successor company, is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of decorative and functional products for interior design, with annual sales of 400 million Euros and 2,000 employees.
Päfgen is a member of the Senate of Germany’s National Academy of Sciences. He collects antiquarian books and is a lover of vintage cars.
